Half Marathon, 10K, & Kids Fun Run

Both the half marathon and 10K are one-way routes on the beautiful and scenic Success Loop and ending at Cave Lake State Park. The half marathon is challenging yet rewarding! It starts in Duck Creek Basin, climbs over Success Summit with a steady uphill climb for about 6 miles and then all downhill to the finish line! The 10K starts at Success Summit and is ALL downhill! Both the half marathon and 10K is on a dirt road until you enter Cave Lake State Park at the last half mile. There will be aid stations approximately every 2 miles with water, Gatorade, and an EMT. There will be energy supplements provided at mile 6. Portable toilets will be at the start/finish and along the route. This is a timed event. All participants recieve a t-shirt and finisher medal. Awards will be given to the top three male and female half marathon and 10K finishers. All participants MUST ride the shuttle bus to the start.
The Kid's Fun Run is a one mile out and back for ages 5 to 12. Parents can run along side their kids and do not need to register for the race. There must be an adult accompanying their kid(s) before and after the event. All kids will receive a goody bag, race t-shirt, bib number, and finishing medal. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the finish line. This is NOT a timed event.

Shuttle Bus Information:
All half marathon and 10k participants are requried to ride the shuttle bus to the starting locations. The buses will depart the school at the time indicated below. Please plan accordingly to not miss the bus shuttle!

There will be a shuttle to transport participants from Cave Lake State Park back to WPC High School if needed. Departure times to be determined based on need.

Aid Stations: Aid stations are located approximately every 2 miles. All aid stations will have water, Gatorade and a trained EMT. The aid station at mile 6 will provide energy gu to participants. There will be an ambulance on site.
Participant Shuttle: All participants for the half marathon and 10K must take the shuttle bus to start locations. The shuttle bus will leave sharp at the times indicated above. There will be a shuttle from Cave Lake State Park back to the High School after the BBQ.
Cave Lake State Park Parking: It is prereferred that spectators park at the Cave Springs Loop trailhead parking lot, located at the turnout before the main state park entrance. There is a short walk up hill to the boat dock where all post-race events will take place.
Restrooms/Portable Toilets: There are bathrooms or portable toilets at the start and finish line. There will also be 4 portable toilets along the route.
Timing: The 10 K and the Half Marathon will use chip timing. Timing chips will be provided at packet pickup. All timing chips must be returned at the finish line!
Warm up clothes: There will be a drop off for warm-up clothes at both the half marathon and 10K start locations. The bags will be taken to the finish line for you.
No strollers or dogs are allowed on the course.
Questions and Answers
1. Where is Cave Lake?
Cave Lake is a state park about 8 miles southeast of Ely, Nevada.
2. Why should I participate in this half-marathon? Why not?
No, seriously, this is going to be one awesome race. The scenery is superb. We won't kid you, this is not the easiest half marathon out there. The average elevation is about 6,800 feet, which means there is a wee bit less oxygen than at sea level.
3. How long is the Take It To the Lake Half Marathon?
Like all half marathons, the Take It To The Lake Half Marathon is 13.1 miles.
4. Can I walk the half-marathon?
Yes! This race is for both walkers and runners. Walkers will start at 7am. There is no time limit for this years race.
5. What is the minimum age requirement?
The minimum age requirement is 12 years old. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to have parental consent when they register. The Kid's Fun Run will be for five year olds and up.
6. What will the weather be like September 17?
In September, the average high is 80 F and night time average is 40 F. Plan for it to be chilly for the start of the race. See NOAA website for additional weather and climate data.
7. If it is cold, what should I do with my warm up clothes?
You can put your warm-up clothes in your participant race bag and leave it at the start. It will be waiting for you when you finish the race.
8. When and where can I pick up my participant race bag?
All participants for the Half Marathon, 10K and the Kids Fun Run can pick up their participant race bags at Rack's Bar and Grill on Friday, Septmeber 16th, from 5-7pm. They have great food and highly recommend staying for your pre-race dinner!
9. Can I register the same day as the race?
YES and NO! We are NOT going to allow same day registration for the Half Marathon or10K. But we will allow same day registration for the Kid's Fun Run. Registration for the Kid's Fun Run will be at the start/finish line near the boat dock starting at 9:00 (also the Kids Fun Run start/finish). We will only be accepting CASH! Also, we have limited number of t-shirts.
10. Can I run/walk with my dog?
No dogs or any other pets are allowed in the race.
11. Can I run/walk with a stroller?
No strollers are allowed in the race.
12. Can I run/walk with headphones?
Yes, but at your own risk. The route will be open to traffic; however traffic will be minimal.
13. How will the race be timed?
Participants will acquire their re-usable chips when picking up race participant bags. You are responsible for remembering your chip race day. We will not provide you with a new chip if you forget yours. Chips MUST be returned upon crossing the finish line.
14. Where are the aid stations and what will they have?
Aid stations will be located every two miles along the route. Each aid station will have water, Gatorade, and a trained medic. At the halfway point, we will supply energy supplements.
15. Will there be portable toilets and where?
There will be 4-8 portable toilets along the route, with pit toilets also at the start and finish.
16. I got injured, pregnant, called out of town unexpectedly and can't make the race, can I receive a refund?
There are NO REFUNDS!
